Request for Council Action for Resolution 2003-3 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2003-3

SUBJECT: Bid award for 2003 Concrete Repair Program, Bid No. 2374.

RECOMMENDATION: Public Works recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with AUI, Inc. in the amount of $785,279.10 for the 2003 Concrete Repair Program. It is further recommended that 10 percent of the contract amount, $78,527.91, be authorized by City Council in the event unanticipated work is needed to complete the streets scheduled for concrete repair in 2003. Total authorization recommended is $863,807.01.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: This contract is used to perform concrete repair on streets scheduled to be resurfaced in 2003. This includes removal and replacement of deteriorated sections of curb, gutter, sidewalk, curb returns and drainage crosspans on all streets scheduled to be overlayed and slurry sealed in 2003. The contract also includes removal and replacement of curb, gutter and sidewalk on a cost sharing basis with adjacent property owners on streets not scheduled to be resurfaced in 2003. This cost sharing work is only done at the property owners' requests.

In addition, the contract includes installation of curb ramps on streets scheduled for resurfacing, and miscellaneous repairs at various other locations throughout the City. Curb ramps are installed to improve the accessibility of existing sidewalks, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The low bidder on the contract is AUI Inc., a qualified concrete repair contractor.
