PROCLAMATION - Make A Difference Day


PROCLAMATION

MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY - A NATIONAL DAY TO HELP OTHERS
October 25, 2003

WHEREAS, everyone wants to make the world a better place; and

WHEREAS, USA WEEKEND magazine and the Points of Light Foundation issue a national call to action each year, challenging Americans to spend one Saturday making a difference in their communities and in the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Make a Difference Day is the largest day of service with 3 million volunteers working on some 5,200 projects nationwide last year; and

WHEREAS, citizens are urged to contact a local nonprofit, volunteer group or government official to find or create a community project to work on; and

WHEREAS, 10 national honorees will be profiled in a special April 2004 edition of USA WEEKEND edition to coincide with National Volunteer week.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the people of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim October 25, 2003 as

MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY
in the City of Lakewood by asking all citizens to volunteer for a community project.
