RESOLUTION: 2002-87

SUBJECT: The Law Enforcement Assistance Fund (LEAF) Contract

ADDRESS: State of Colorado, Department of Transportation, Office of Transportation Safety, 4201 East Arkansas Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80222-3400

RECOMMENDATION: Mayor and City Council authorize entering into the LEAF Contract to receive state grant funds in the amount of $62,500 for drunk driving enforcement.

FUNDING SOURCE: Funds will come from the Colorado Department of Transportation LEAF Contract.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The grant money that was received from the state this year has been used to enforce the laws pertaining to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs (DUI). All DUI enforcement goals set for this year have been met thus far. The state has once again designated that the LEAF grant funds for next year must be used to enforce the DUI laws. Grant funds from the LEAF Contract will be utilized to assign agents to work overtime. The agents working the grant will concentrate on finding and arresting drunk drivers. They will only be diverted to assist other police agents in the event of an emergency.
