RESOLUTION: 2002-77
SUBJECT: Bid Award for the reconstruction of the Kipling/Alameda Intersection.
RECOMMENDATION: Public Works recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Jalisco International, Inc., in the amount of $1,995,580.80 plus authorize an additional $100,000.00 for contingencies for a total contract amount not to exceed $2,095,580.80.
FUNDING SOURCE: Capital Improvement Funds, Colorado Department of Transportation, and Federal TEA 21 Funds
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The City of Lakewood entered into an agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation to reconstruct the Kipling/Alameda intersection. Approximately $1,647,000 of the construction funding will be Federal TEA 21 Funds. The Colorado Department of Transportation is providing $235,000 and the City will provide the remainder of the funds.
Kipling and Alameda will be reconstructed and widened to provide a concrete intersection surface. The project will also include double left turns in all four directions, sidewalks, bikepaths, lighting and a new traffic signal. The City of Lakewood designed, bid and will be providing construction management for the project. The City will make payments to the contractor and then be reimbursed with federal and state funds.
On October 3, 2002, the City of Lakewood opened bids for Kipling Street (SH 391) and West Alameda Avenue, Bid No. 2343. The lowest responsible, responsive and qualified bidder was Jalisco International, Inc., with a bid of $1,995,580.80.
