REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2002-26

SUBJECT: A resolution authorizing the City Manager to sign an Intergovernmental Agreement among the West Metro Fire Protection District, the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District, the Pleasant View Fire Protection District, the Littleton Fire Department and the City of Lakewood relating to the sharing of responsibilities during a hazardous materials incident.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The West Metro Fire Protection District, the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District, the Pleasant View Fire Protection District and the Littleton Fire Department each currently have the authority to operate within the corporate boundaries of the City of Lakewood for the purpose of fire prevention and rescue. An Intergovernmental Agreement has been prepared which sets forth a process by which the City and the various fire departments can share resources and expertise in the event of a hazardous materials incident occurring within the City. The Intergovernmental Agreement provides a command structure and discrete responsibilities for the agencies involved.
