RESOLUTION: 2002-14
SUBJECT: Entering into Amendment Number 1 to an existing contract between the City of Lakewood and the Colorado Department of Transportation for the upgrade of the field traffic signal equipment connected to the new master traffic signal computer system.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Council authorize Amendment Number 1 to an existing contract between the City of Lakewood and the Colorado Department of Transportation for the upgrade of field traffic signal equipment.
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: In 1999 the City of Lakewood requested funding consideration from the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) for the new traffic signal system. Under the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century of 1998 (TEA-21) the City, as a local agency, is eligible for a portion of these funds under the Surface Transportation Program as proposed by the State and approved by the Federal Highway Administration. The current mechanism is for DRCOG to approve the projects and CDOT to administer the contract with the local agencies. The contract is 100% federally funded for the purchase of the equipment. City forces will perform the installation. The $750,000.00 the City of Lakewood will receive under Amendment Number 1 will be used to replace the traffic signal controllers and cabinets on Wadsworth Boulevard, Colfax Avenue, Union Boulevard and a portion of Alameda Parkway.
