RESOLUTION: 2002-2
SUBJECT: Award of Contract for 2002 Concrete Repair Program
RECOMMENDATION: Public Works recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Fasick Concrete Inc. in the amount of $1,123,716.88 for the 2002 Concrete Repair Program. It is further recommended that 10 percent of the contract amount, $112,371.69, be authorized by City Council in the event unanticipated work is needed to complete the streets scheduled for concrete repair in 2002. Total authorization recommended is $1,236,088.57.
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: This contract is used to perform several concrete construction related projects, described below:
1. Removal and replacement of deteriorated sections of curb, gutter, sidewalk, curb returns and drainage crosspans on streets scheduled to be resurfaced in 2002.
2. Installation of curb ramps on streets scheduled to be resurfaced in 2002, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
3. Miscellaneous concrete repairs throughout the City, including removal and replacement of curb, gutter and sidewalk on a cost sharing basis, as requested by adjacent property owners.
In 2000, the Concrete Repair Program was let with competitive bids, with an option for 2 renewals at the City's option. The low bidder in 2000 was Fasick Concrete Inc. In 2001, Fasick's contract was renewed with a 4.5% increase to compensate for increased labor, equipment and material costs. For 2002, Fasick has agreed to renew the contract with a 0% increase over 2001 unit prices.
Fasick Concrete, Inc. did a good job completing the 2000 and 2001 Concrete Repair Program, and Public Works recommends that the contract with Fasick Concrete, Inc. be renewed for 2002 with a 0% increase over 2001 contract unit prices.
