Resolution 2002-59BG REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

RESOLUTION: 2002-59

SUBJECT: Design services for the Municipal Court remodel and renovation at the Public Safety Center.

ADDRESS: Public Safety Center, 445 S. Allison Parkway

RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended City Council authorize the City Manager to execute a contact with H+L Architecture in the amount of Fifty Nine Thousand and Ninety-One dollars ($59,091.00) for design and architectural services for the Municipal Court remodel and renovation.

FUNDING SOURCE: Capital Improvement Fund.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: Within the Capital Improvement Fund for the years of 2002 and 2003, $400,000 of funding has been authorized for renovation project work for the Municipal Court and the Municipal Prosecutors' areas within the Public Safety Center. To complete this phase of the project, design and architectural services of a professional architect are required. H+L Architecture of Denver, Colorado is recommended as the architectural firm to provide the necessary design services. This recommendation is based on the following:

H+L Architecture was the architectural firm of record for the Municipal Court remodels completed in 1995 and 1997. The remodel and renovation work planned for in 2002/2003 is within the same general areas H+L has previously worked within. Because of their extensive design history with the Municipal Court area, H+L is a logical choice for this design work.

H+L Architecture was the architectural firm of record for the recently completed Public Safety Center remodel and renovation work completed for the Police Department. As part of their scope of work for the Police Department remodel, H+L also completed initial planning and schematic design for this Municipal Court remodel. This contract would be a continuation of work previously completed by H+L Architecture.
