Request for Council Action for Ordinance 2002-43 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ORDINANCE: O-2002-43

SUBJECT: Ordinance declaring the City's intent to acquire interests in real property for the Union Boulevard Pavement Reconstruction Project.

ADDRESS: Union Boulevard between West 6th Avenue to West 4th Avenue.

RECOMMENDATION: Adoption of this ordinance.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: The City intends to construct a through right turn lane from West 6th Avenue South to West 4th Avenue to allow for better traffic movement from West 6th Avenue to West 4th Avenue. This project will also include relocating a portion of the existing sidewalk on the West side of Union Boulevard to accommodate this additional lane. The construction of these improvements is anticipated to be completed by September of 2003. In order to start construction of the improvements on the scheduled date, the City needs to pass an intent ordinance to start acquiring the property interests necessary for this project. This is the first step in the acquisition process. If any property interests need to be acquired through a court preceding a resolution will be presented to City Council before any court action is filed. The Right of Way and Construction plans should be available near the end of January 2003.
