Ordinance 2002-15
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ORDINANCE: 0-2002-15

SUBJECT: Compensation for the Municipal Court Judges

RECOMMENDATION: Adoption of an Ordinance, which sets the salaries for the Presiding and Associate Municipal Judges.

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER: Each year the Judges Salary Committee meets to make a recommendation on the annual compensation for the presiding and associate municipal judges in the Municipal Court. The Salary Committee has met and is recommending the following salaries: $104,283 for the presiding municipal judge and $99,840 for the municipal judges. The additional compensation for the presiding municipal judge covers the administrative duties assigned to that position. The committee also recommends an increase to $65 per hour for the associate municipal judges.

Last year's salaries were $100,272 for the presiding municipal judge and $96,000 for the associate municipal judges. The proposed salaries reflect a 4.0 percent increase for the presiding judge and a 4.0 percent increase for the associate judges. The salaries are retroactive to March 31, 2002, the same date, as other employees' salary adjustments would take effect.
Associate municipal judges' salary is recommended to increase from $60 per hour to $65 per hour. This is the first increase in three years.
