STREET RESURFACING

The Street Maintenance Division resurfaces numerous miles of city streets each year. This resurfacing includes seal coats to seal streets and prolong their useful life, and asphalt overlays to bring streets that have fallen into disrepair up to an acceptable condition.

2010 Summer Street Repairs Launched

It’s one of the most visible services Lakewood residents expect from their City government: keeping Lakewood streets in good repair. This summer, Lakewood will spend $5.9 million repairing 38 miles of city streets. The annual project is paid for through Lakewood's Capital Improvement Program.

Summer street resurfacing includes:

Sealcoating
On streets in fair to good condition, the surface is patched and cracksealed to repair any failed areas. Then a sealcoat is applied to the total surface area of the street to seal it against the effects of weathering and to extend its service life.

Asphalt Resurfacing or Overlay
Streets where pavement is failing are first patched, then rotomilled to prevent excessive buildup of asphalt at the edges and crowns of streets. Next, crews spread a layer of asphalt, ranging from one to two inches thick, over the street to build up the pavement structure and give it more strength.

Concrete repairs on streets scheduled to be resurfaced include removing and replacing badly deteriorated sections of curb, gutter, sidewalk and drainage crosspans.

To speak with someone about the street resurfacing program, call Lakewood’s Street Maintenance Division at 303-987-7950 between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
