Services Section
The
Lakewood Police Property Services Section is responsible for the
control and protection of all property and evidence in the custody
of the Department.
EVIDENCE MANAGEMENT
In
2007 over 64,000 items of evidence were verified utilizing automated
bar code scanning. Additionally, over 41,000 items were released
, auctioned or otherwise disposed of in accordance with City of
Lakewood Municipal Code.
Five internal audits are conducted annually verifying the integrity
of the operation.
Release
of property to the rightful owners is a primary objective and is
conducted by appointment only.
Upon
notification of a disposition by the court, property held as evidence
will be available for release to the owners. Every effort is made
to notify property owners by mail to claim their property within
30 days.

CLAIMING
PROPERTY
Property
must be claimed by the owner with a government issued picture I.D.
Property may be claimed by a third party with an original notarized
letter from the owner of the property.
FOUND
PROPERTY
Found
property turned into the police department may be claimed by the
finder if the property is not released to the original owner within
60 Days. A letter of intent to claim this property must be submitted
to the police department to claim "finders rights".
