NOTICE
RECOVERY ACT: JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT

Recently, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Police Departments in Arvada, Lakewood, and Wheat Ridge, received a local solicitation, of a one-time grant award, from the Department of Justice through the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG for the amount of $208, 199. This money is awarded based upon a formula of population and Part I violent crimes. Representatives of these agencies plan to apply this funding to the hiring of personnel, and the purchase of equipment and supplies.
Per the requirement of the grant, the City is posting notification of the application for a period of 30 days.
The Lakewood Police Department, serving as Grant Applicant, will host a public hearing on the use of the 2009 Justice Assistance Grant award in the amount of $208,199. The hearing will be held at 2:00 p.m. on August 12, 2009, in the Police Training/Community Room at 445 S. Allison Parkway, Lakewood Colorado. The goal of the 2009 Justice Assistance Grant is designed to reduce crime and provide public safety by assisting law enforcement agencies with the hiring of personnel; purchase of equipment, technology, or other materials directly related to law enforcement functions. Community members are welcome to attend the public hearing to provide input into the proposed use of the funds.
