Detectives investigate drowning of 3-Year-Old

July 9, 2010

On July 9, 2010 at approximately 3:22 pm, Lakewood Police received a call of a possible drowning at 322 Wright St in the City of Lakewood.  Police and West Metro Paramedics responded.  3 year-old Isatou Ceesay had been pulled from the bottom of a non-circulating hot tub, adjacent to the common area swimming pool.  She was transported to St Anthony’s Central, where attempts to revive her were fruitless.  She was pronounced dead at approximately 4:15.

Isatou had been left with an adult babysitter, who lived in the complex, while her mother ran errands.  The baby sitter was also responsible for 3 additional children at the pool.  She was present at the pool when this occurred.  The investigation is on-going as to what occurred and how long Isatou was in the water.  Both adult and child witnesses have been interviewed.

It had not yet been determined whether or not the charge of Negligent Child Abuse Resulting in Death is appropriate in this case.  That determination will be made after the completion of the investigation and a review of the facts by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
