Co-Hosts Community Shred Day
The
Lakewood Police Department and Shred-It Co. will host a Free Community Shred Day
- 9am
- 3pm, Saturday, May 1, 2010
- Hobby Lobby Parking Lot, Belmar Shopping District
- West Alameda Ave & South Saulsbury St
This free service allows the public
to bring up to three boxes of confidential documents to be shredded
on site.
"The
public response and support for previous Shred Days has been overwhelming
and as a result we will be conducting another shred day for the citizens
and business communities as a tool to prevent identity theft and
fraud" said Mike Becker, Commander of the Lakewood
Police Property Crimes Section.
The
Lakewood Police Department felt that it would be good to get community organizations involved also. They invite different charitable organizations each time they host an event to solicit
donations for their causes. This Shred Day will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver. The club helps youth stay out of trouble, stay in school and succeed in life.
"We are pleased once again to partner with Belmar, the Alameda Gateway Association and Shred-it to offer this free service which helps prevent sensitive documents from landing in the wrong hands. This will be the fourth shred day we've hosted and the public response has been great. To date we have shredded nearly 25 tons of documents for the citizens and business community" said Lakewood Police Chief Kevin Paletta.
In
addition to shredding of confidential documents, members of the
Lakewood Police Department will be on hand to provide free identity
theft and fraud prevention information. They will also be available
to answer any questions. Members of the Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force will be there to provide material regarding auto crime prevention. They will also be doing VIN number etching on windows and giving away free steering wheel club locks while supplies last. |
