Soccer Coach Arrested for Sexual Assault

March 10 , 2009

Lakewood police detectives have arrested a 40-year-old private soccer coach on charges of "sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust", as well as "sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust with a pattern".

Stiewert

Delbert Wallace Stiewert was arrested yesterday afternoon after detectives were made aware of an inappropriate sexual relationship that Stiewert had with a female student.

The assaults occurred over a period of time in 2005-2006 when the now 17-year-old victim was 13 and 14 years of age. Although the victim was a resident of an adjoining city, the assaults took place at Wallace's residence in Lakewood.

Wallace had been contracted to provide private soccer lessons to the victim. He is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $50,000 bond after making his first appearance in court today at 10:00 am. The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for formal charging.

Due to the nature of the charges and the juvenile status of the victim, no further details are available at this time. Detectives are asking anyone who feels they may have information that would assist in the investigation and/or regarding Mr. Wallace to contact Detective Loburgio at 303-987-7222.
