Release
Suspects
in Homicide Investigation Identified
February
12, 2009
Detectives
from the Lakewood Police Department have identified three people
who were arrested in an overnight homicide investigation. The investigation
into the apparent shooting believed to have occurred in the 200
block of South Ingalls Street is ongoing.
21-year-old
Phillip F. Montano, 32-year-old Derrick W. Blake and 33-year-old
Angela C. Sanders were arrested after leading police from Lakewood
and Denver on a pursuit that ended in the area of I-25 & Santa
Fe when their vehicle crashed into some barrier poles.
The
incident began in the area of Alameda Ave. & South Pierce Street
at about 11:30 when a Lakewood police officer stopped to contact
a man seen walking in the area. The man who police say was visibly
upset directed police to the residence on South Ingalls indicating
that there had been gunfire at the residence. As police arrived
a vehicle was seen leaving and ignored attempts to stop it. The
pursuit continued eastbound on Alameda Ave. as items of evidence
were thrown from the suspect vehicle at many locations.
Montano
exited the vehicle and ran to a restaurant in the area of Alameda
& Santa Fe where he was later taken into custody. The vehicle
attempted to leave however struck some barriers a short distance
later. Police were then able to take Blake and Sanders into custody.
The
body of a Hispanic male was found in the trunk of the vehicle, and
had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. The three suspects were
taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained
in the crash before being released to police.
Montano
and Blake were booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges
of first degree murder. Sanders was booked on charges of being an
accessory and felony eluding.
The
victim's identity
is not being released at this time pending the Coroner's notification
of relatives.
