Release
Suspects
in Numerous Criminal Cases Arrested
January
14, 2009
Lakewood
Police have arrested a man and woman who are believed to be responsible
for possibly hundreds of crimes in many jurisdictions around the
state.
On
January 6th, detectives from Greenwood Village Police Department
notified Lakewood police about a suspect using a stolen credit card
at a store in Lakewood. After viewing video of the suspect the agent
was able to determine an address on W. Dartmouth, for the suspect's
girlfriend.
Surveillance
was conducted on the W. Dartmouth address and the suspect was seen
moving items from one vehicle to another. After a brief foot chase,
the suspect - 30-year-old Michael Robert Chard was arrested and
was in possession of a handgun. Chard's girlfriend 32-year-old Brandy
P. Dippel was also arrested for possession of a credit card that
was believed to be stolen.
Further
investigation determined that the two vehicles Chard had been transferring
items between had been stolen in Denver and were both completely
full of stolen items. Chard and Dipple also had a storage locker
that contained numerous stolen items. All combined, there are thousands
of stolen items including but not limited to electronic equipment,
firearms, bicycles and credit cards.
Working
with many regional jurisdictions, Lakewood police believe there
are at least 130 separate victims of various crimes in the metro
area, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction and Glenwood Springs.
Both
Dipple and Chard face at least nineteen felony charges each, including
theft by receiving, aggravated motor vehicle theft, possession of
a firearm by a previous offender, identity theft and many others.
Chard is also believed to be responsible for at least one robbery.
