Assistance
for Crime Victims
Victim
Assistance Program
The
Victim Assistance Program exists to provide aid to innocent persons
who suffer physical, emotional or financial loss as a result of
a crime of violence. You may be eligible for assistance if you have
been a crime victim. For more information, contact Victim Assistance
at (303) 987-7191.
Crisis
Intervention Services
Crisis
Intervention Services are available on scene and immediately after
the crime to provide help to victims and their families. Referrals
are made for treatment and counseling services. Information is provided
on the case and the investigation, and assistance is provided with
criminal justice issues later in the process. Assistance is also
provided in recovering a victim’s property used as evidence in cases
and returning it. Victims advocates will help with the application
for compensation. Victims advocates can also help with any court
appearance as necessary and with support while in court. Special
services are also available for victims of family violence, sexual
assault and family members of homicide victims. For further information,
contact Victim Assistance at (303) 987-7191.
Crime
Victim Compensation
You
may be eligible for assistance if you have been a crime victim,
are innocent of any wrongdoing in the incident, and cooperate with
the prosecution of the case. Funds to compensate victims are collected
from convicted offenders. Except under unusual circumstances, you
have up to one year from the date of the crime to file your claim.
For property crimes, the time limit to apply is three months. You
must report the crime to the police within 72 hours of its occurrence
and fully cooperate. For information or assistance, contact Victim
Assistance at (303) 987-7191.
