Volunteers Welcome at LPD

The Lakewood Police Department's community volunteers are valuable resources. Volunteers are active in all divisions of the department and perform a variety of tasks including: clerical work, computer entry, statistical analysis, providing tours, extra patrol, disability parking enforcement, investigation assistance, community presentations, neighborhood speed control, assisting patrol agents with stranded motorist, abandoned vehicle, and welfare check calls. Volunteers manage the Neighborhood Watch program and prepare the NW newsletter and other brochures.

Requirements

All volunteers must pass a thorough background investigation and a computerized voice stress analysis test. A commitment of six months is required, but there is no minimum number of hours per week or per month. Minimum age for all positions other than Explorer Post 226 is 21 years of age.Training requirements will vary by position and are defined for each position listed.

Benefits

Volunteers have the opportunity to give back to their country, state and city through the hours they volunteer. Volunteers also gain valuable insights into the law enforcement system and how it works. They have the opportunity to help enhance services, enabling police to respond more effectively to enforcement and policing priorities.

Holiday volunteer opportunities

Operation Caring By Sharing Each Christmas, a number of financially limited, still independent senior citizens are provided with baskets containing food, gifts and other items intended to make the holidays a little brighter.

Christmas Cheer For Children -
Lakewood Police Agents deliver Christmas presents to children whose families are financially unable to buy presents. The department sponsors the program and police agents deliver the gifts just before Dec. 25. Citizens may volunteer to sponsor a child, make a donation, organize a food, clothing or new toy drive for the program by calling 303-987-7105. Donations of NEW, UNUSED clothing, toys and books are accepted throughout the year.
