Cold Case Unit

In July of 2008, the Lakewood Police Department established the Cold Case Unit.  This unit is comprised of a full-time detective, part-time civilian detective, a victim advocate and civilian volunteers.  Our detectives focus their efforts on compiling, reviewing and re-investigation of unresolved homicides, sexual assault and suspicious missing person cases.  There are currently 23 unresolved homicide cases. A few are currently highlighted with the intention of eventually summarizing all cases in the future.

Cold Cases are among the most difficult and challenging cases detectives face.  Our mission is to provide patience, creativity, persistence, and to use every possible resource available so we can bring justice to the victims of homicide, sexual assault or missing person cases.  As well as bring answers and resolution for the families so that they may continue the healing process, while also protecting the citizens of Lakewood and other communities from these criminals.

Victim Advocates are a valuable resource for our victim families. Victim Advocates can assist families in accessing services, keeping families informed of the case status, maintaining victim rights and due process as per the Constitution of the State of Colorado.

Many tools are accessed in the resolution of these cold cases.  Advances in forensic science and DNA have proven valuable in bringing justice into these immobile cases.  As well as witnesses who no longer share a bond with the perpetrator of these crimes or change their value system with the passage of time can assist the police in solving these cold cases.  If you or anyone you know has any information in the following cases, please contact the Lakewood Police Department at the Cold Case Hotline (303) 987-7474 or e-mail: coldcase@lakewoodco.org.
