Working to assist the City Council Legislative Committee, the City Manager's Office systematically manages the Citywide review of bills introduced in the Colorado State Legislature. Bills are analyzed for their potential impact on City operations and finances, and the City's "official" position on relevant bills is developed.

The City Manager's Office regularly shares the City's official position papers with Lakewood's elected representatives in the Legislature and keeps City Council apprised of the status, amendments, and progress of bills through the Legislature.

These efforts include maintaining close relationships and open communications with Lakewood's elected representatives and working closely with organizations such as the Colorado Municipal League. Additionally as necessary, the City Manager's Office coordinates testimony from City staff before Legislative committees, answers requests for information from Legislators, and communicates with Colorado's Senators and Representatives in Congress regarding national legislation with potential impact to the City of Lakewood.
