The City Attorney provides day-to-day legal advice to the City Council, City Manager, all Boards and Commissions and other City officials on ethical matters, ordinances and regulations, contracts, land use, litigation and a wide range of other legal issues. The City Attorney also oversees private law firms retained to assist the City with specialized legal matters. The City Attorney's office is located in the Office of the Mayor & City Manager at 480 S. Allison Parkway.

Police Legal Advisor

The Police Legal Advisor serves as the attorney for the Lakewood Police Department, and is responsible for the legal training of police recruits and all current Police Department employees. The Advisor also drafts City ordinances pertaining to law-enforcement issues, interprets state statutes and court decisions for implementation by the Police Department, and helps oversee litigation involving the Department. The Police Legal Advisor's office is located in the Police Chief's office at 445 S. Allison Parkway.

Municipal Prosecutor's Office

The Chief Municipal Prosecutor and four Prosecuting Attorneys prosecute traffic, zoning, tax and animal control cases and other violations of the Lakewood Municipal Code in Municipal Court. The Prosecutor's Office also has an administrative assistant and several legal investigators who help prepare cases for trial by interviewing witnesses and reviewing police reports.
