In its advisory role, the Commission receives assignments from City Council to research specific issues or topics of interest to the community, and to make recommendations to City Council regarding those issues for potential action. Reports Quarterly reports summarize assignments made to the Commission, its recommendations, and any further action or status of assignments:
Current Assignments Evaluate routine City forms, notices and communication to determine if foreign language translation is necessary and cost effective. Also consider and make recommendations regarding the City’s routine communication tools such as KLTV-8, Lakewood.org, and “Looking at Lakewood.” Weigh taxpayer costs with the benefits in making recommendations.
Study the needs of the Jeffco Action Center and explore opportunities for further support of the Center, including the following considerations: is it appropriate to use taxpayer dollars to help support JAC; do others cities offer financial support; are there ways that the municipalities in Jefferson County can pull together to get involved in expanding the regional support for the center; provide recommendations for expanding support within our current fiscal constraints.
Research, discuss, consider and make a recommendation as to whether single-use trails would be beneficial in managing the uses of William Frederick Hayden Park on Green Mountain.
Consider the creation of a volunteer “Friends of Bear Creek Lake Park” program. The program discussed would create a “club” type group, whose members would pay an additional amount in the form of a parks pass, and be entitled to help support park maintenance activities. This is done with some parks throughout the country. Please research, deliberate and make a recommendation as to whether it is appropriate for this park.
