About the Veteran's PACK Program:
In 2015, the Lakewood Police Department and Municipal Court established a collaborative partnership with the Lakewood Elks Lodge 1777. The goal was to assist justice and non-justice involved veterans at-risk for homelessness through a continuum of interventions. For those most vulnerable veterans, street packs are made available to provide for basic needs.

When a veteran engages and begins working with various agencies to secure sustainable housing, our collaborative efforts with the Elks fund the submission of housing applications and the purchase of basic household goods (dishes, cooking utensils, towels, sheets, etc.). After a homeless veteran secures housing, this partnership provides transportation in the form of RTD bus passes for veterans to attend specific VA interventions.

Additionally, five Lakewood Agents who are veterans as well reach out to assist at-risk veterans in their respective patrol sectors. Each Agent is provided a veteran resource book, RTD bus tickets, veteran homeless street packs and ARC clothing gift cards.

Items in the veteran homeless street packs:

  • Non-perishable food items: Beef jerky, granola bars, cup if mac & cheese, cup-o-noodles, crackers, peanuts
  • Information pamphlet on Veteran Services
  • Gift cards (Arc, McDonalds, King Soopers, Walmart)
  • Plastic silverware
  • Locks with veteran crisis line number on them
  • Rain ponchos
  • Hand-crank flashlight
  • Water bottle
  • Socks
  • Hand warmers
  • Sunscreen
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • Combs
  • Deodorant

This collaborative partnership between the Lakewood Police, Municipal Court and Elks Lodge 1777 has truly strengthened the community outreach interventions directed at veteran homelessness.
