Youth Specialty Activities

Designed to help kids get creative and discover new interests, this wide variety of classes has something for everyone. From music classes, to self-defense and American Red Cross Babysitting classes, the Recreation Division brings new experiences to the youth of Lakewood.

Babysitting
American Red Cross Babysitters Training certification course prepares youth to safely and responsibly care for themselves and/or other children in the absence of parents or guardians.

Education
Children’s and Teens Etiquette and Dining classes will serve as building blocks for adolescents or teens by teaching confidence and self-esteem for dining, grooming, conversing, meeting and introducing people.

Self Defense
Fight Back 101 is an interactive, self-defense workshop that covers everything from safety awareness and use of voice protection, to practical and easily learned physical defense skills.  Also included are common sense preventions and solutions to hazardous situations.

Science
Lakewood Recreation offers a variety of Mad Science classes and camps that are fun and educational.  Machine Mania, Shutter Bugs, Radical Reactions, Mission Control and Earth Awareness are just a few of the exciting subjects to learn more about.

Music
Long time music instructor Sarah Billerbeck works with children ages 6 months-6years and their families to incorporate singing, playing, moving, listening and music creation into learning and developing.  Through music, increase verbal language and learn ways to nurture the budding musician in every child.
