A RESOLUTION

AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD TO ENTER INTO AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH JEFFERSON COUNTY, ARVADA, GOLDEN, WESTMINSTER AND WHEAT RIDGE RELATING TO THE HOUSING AND TREATMENT OF JUVENILE REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS

WHEREAS, Jefferson County, Arvada, Golden, Westminster, Wheat Ridge and Lakewood recognize and agree that the housing and treatment of Juvenile Registered Sex Offenders is a matter of county-wide interest, requiring the development and implementation of a comprehensive agreement among all of the affected jurisdictions to assure that the housing and treatment of such juveniles balances the health, safety, and welfare of both the individual juveniles and the entire community; and,

WHEREAS, In Title 29, Article 20, Colorado Revised Statues, as amended, the General Assembly of the State of Colorado authorizes and encourages local governments to cooperate or contract with other units of government for the purpose of planning and regulating the development of land, including but not limited to, the joint exercise of planning, zoning, subdivision, building, and related regulations.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, that:

SECTION 1. The City Manager is authorized to sign and the City Clerk attest an intergovernmental agreement, in form approved by the City Attorney, with Jefferson County, the City of Golden, the City of Arvada, the City of Westminster and the City of Wheat Ridge relating to the housing and treatment of Juvenile Registered Sex Offenders.

SECTION 2. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect upon its passage and approval.

INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED by a vote of 9 for and 1 against at a regular meeting of the City Council on August 12, 2002, at 7 o'clock p.m. at Lakewood City Hall, Civic Center South, 480 South Allison Parkway, Lakewood, Colorado.
