P R O C L A M A T I O N

WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD
April 22 - 26, 2002

WHEREAS, the future well-being of our youth, and therefore our community, depends on the quality of the early childhood experiences provided to young children today; and

WHEREAS, high-quality early childhood services represent a worthy commitment to our children's future and the future of our community and nation; and

WHEREAS, the National Association for the Education of Young Children is celebrating the Month of the Young Child in April; and

WHEREAS, by calling attention to the need for high-quality childhood services for all children and families within our community, the quality and availability of those services may be improved.

NOW, THEREFORE, on behalf of the City Council and the people of Lakewood, I, Steve Burkholder, Mayor of the City of Lakewood, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim the week of April 22 - 26, 2002

WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD

in the City of Lakewood, and urge all residents to recognize and support the needs of young children in our community.
