Dear Mr. Kerlin:

On behalf of the entire City Council and myself, I want to thank you for assisting one of our Lakewood Rides drivers, Lulu Jojola, and her ill passenger during the ice storm of March 8, 2002. Lakewood Rides was transporting a young woman from Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital to a nursing home when traffic came to a standstill on an icy hill on Pierce Street. Despite Lulu's best efforts, the bus began to slide backwards inch by inch on the slick hill.

Your father was trying to help Lulu when you came along and stepped in. You directed Lulu to back into a driveway, and then stopped traffic on Pierce Street so that she could turn the bus around and take another route to the care center. Thanks to your efforts, the passenger's travel time was greatly reduced, and the City's employee and bus came through the day unscathed.

Again, thank you! Individuals such as you and your father are truly priceless treasures in our community.
