FAQ

Q. How long is the race?
A. There are four main parts to the Bearable Adventure Race: a water crossing in the lake, a mountain bike leg which will be mostly off-road, a trail run and an orienteering course. Please check back for updated information and distances as our 2010 race course is currently under development.

Q. What do I need to bring on race day?
A. Bring your bike, helmet and personal flotation device (PFD). Both PFDs and helmets are required to be worn during the Bearable Adventure Race for the swimming/lake crossing and mountain bike portions. (PFDs can be rented at the Lakewood REI store.)

Q. Does each team member complete all parts of the race or do we take turns?
A. Each team member is required to complete the entire racecourse and must enter and exit each transition together. This is a team event. Both teammates must stay together at all times.

Q. What's this "orienteering" stuff?
A. This will be basic navigation that does not require a compass. Teams will be given a topographical map and will need to find a predetermined number of checkpoints.

Q. Will I need any special skills or equipment for the orienteering section of the course?
A. Other than your brain and common sense, no other special skills or equipment will be required for this section of the race.

Q. Is any of the mountain biking extremely technical?
A. Define "extremely." Although there is a lot of single track, the course is considered "non-technical."

Q. Is the course the same as last year?
A. No.

Q. If the race is cancelled or my partner drops out before race day or I break my leg the night before the event, can I get a refund?
A. Unfortunately, with such a large event, we are not in a position to give refunds to teams or individuals that cannot participate. In the unfortunate case of a natural disaster or any other unforeseeable miserable event that forces the cancellation of the race, participants will be eligible for free entry to the 2010 Bearable Adventure Race, assuming that Bear Creek Lake Park is still there.

Q. What is the minimum age for participation?
A. For the Male, Female and Coed divisions all participants must be 18 and over. Our Adult/Youth division requires at least one adult (18 and over) be on the team and the minimum age for youth is 12. Our High School division requires both participants to have a valid High School ID and be at least 15 years of age.

Q. What do I get for my entry fee?
A. Other than an unforgettable race at an outstanding park, you'll get a bunch of cool stuff, including: a technical race t-shirt that your friends will want to borrow, some neat biking/running socks and a lifetime of memories.

Q. Do I have to wear my bib at all times during the race?
A. Yes you do, and it must be visible at all times, including during the lake crossing. How else would we know who you are?

Q. How many pairs of shoes do I need?
A. Shoes must be worn at all times during the ENTIRE course. Whereas you can only wear one pair at a time, you can bring as many pairs of shoes as you like. We only recommend two. Please remember there could be water on the course, so plan accordingly.
