You are invited to bring a lunch and join Lakewood planning staff each Wednesday in October for a one-hour film that examines urban planning challenges and opportunities. Please join us after each film for a 30 minute staff-led discussion on each week’s topic!
Taken for a Ride
This film reveals the tragic and little-known story of an auto and oil industry campaign, led by General Motors, to buy and dismantle streetcar lines. With investigative journalism, vintage archival footage and candid interviews, “Taken for a Ride” presents a revealing history of our cities in the 20th century that is also a mediation on corporate power, city form, citizen protest, and the social and environmental implications of transportation.

In 2007, the ACIC was established to serve in an advisory role to City Council, involving citizens more directly to provide public input. The ACIC is made up of three committees consisting of 30 members. The ACIC committees bring forward initiatives or issues, which the commission deems important for consideration by City Council. ACIC committees may receive assignments from City Council to research specific issues or topics that interest the community and then make recommendations accordingly. All ACIC meetings are open to the public and citizen participation is encouraged.
Please visit our upcoming Planning Commission meetings page to see if there are agenda items for Planning Commission to consider. Schedule reflects the latest available information.
