Did you know that Lakewood has over 5,000 acres of open space parks? This Earth Day, we will be celebrating Lakewood Regional Parks and the open space areas they provide. We will hike a trail in the Bear Creek Greenbelt as it takes us along Bear Creek. Please dress for unpredictable spring weather. No dogs please.

Earth Day Volunteer Service Project

Join park staff as we celebrate Earth Day and help clean up the park! Volunteers get their hands dirty while working on projects like trail maintenance, collecting trash and recyclables from throughout the park, and removing non-native vegetation and sowing plants and trees – all to beautify and improve their local parks. The project will run from 8:30 a.m.-noon.  A light breakfast will be provided and all volunteers are invited to stay for lunch.
Participants should remember to bring extra water and snacks, sunscreen, gloves and appropriate work clothes. We will provide all required tools. Individuals and small groups are welcome. Parking is limited, so carpooling is highly encouraged

Park entrance fee is waived.

The darkness of night provides a unique backdrop for a hiking adventure. Leave those flashlights at home and hone your night vision as a park naturalist guides you along the park’s trails and surrounding green spaces. These hikes are designed for the whole family, but keep in mind each one will average an hour and a half of walking and observing. Don’t forget to dress appropriately for Colorado’s ever changing weather. No dogs please.

$2/person; park entrance fee is waived.
All registration close dates are the Monday preceding the hike.

National Trails Day

Join us for a volunteer trail project at William Frederick Hayden Park at Green Mountain in partnership with the Colorado Mountain Bike Association. This is a trail project geared toward the entire family with fun and educational activities for the kids while parents work on the trail. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Trout Fishing Tournament

 Third Annual Fishing Tournament

Cast your line and reel in the big one at the  Bear Creek Lake Park Trout Fishing Tournament! The target fish for this event will be rainbow trout, and the winner will be determined by weight. The tournament will take place on Bear Creek Reservoir, with 25 available slots for watercraft and 25 slots for shore fisherman. This is a team event; at least one team member must be 18 years or older. There will be cash prices for first, second and third place. All boats will require a mandatory boat inspection.

Fee: $60/team (includes park entrance fee)

Saturday Night Campfire Programs!

Join us for an evening of fun and education for the entire family! A marshmallow roast will follow, weather permitting.

The Friends of Dinosaur Ridge will be presenting dinosaur fossils that have been found in and around the Denver area.  We will be discussing Stegosaurus, Allosaurus, Iguanodon, Utahraptor ,Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus Rex. Learn about the time periods in which these animals lived and how they survived. After the presentation, Dinosaur Ride interpreters will take time to answer any questions you may have about fossils, prehistoric life or paleontology.
