Street Sweeping
STREET SWEEPING
The city's Street Maintenance Division is responsible for sweeping streets. During the warm weather months (April 15 to November 1), the City sweeps busy arterial and collector streets an average of once every 10 days. Residential streets are swept 4 times during this time period.

During the winter months (November 1 to April 15), the City sweeps street sand and debris from busy arterial and collector streets as soon as possible after every snow storm. Minor collector and residential streets that are sanded are swept once every 3 weeks (weather permitting).

Sweepers also respond to special requests for immediate pickup of debris creating traffic problems, such as broken glass. In addition to helping keep the city clean, sweeping helps to control air pollution and reduces health hazards by insuring that trash doesn't accumulate and become a harborage for insects and rodents. For additional information, or to report an area that needs immediate attention, please call the Street Maintenance Division at 987-7950 between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

ADOPT A STREET

An "Adopt-a-Street" program has been developed by the City of Lakewood Street Maintenance Division, to encourage Lakewood citizens to take an active role in helping keep our highways free of litter. You can show you care about Lakewood and help the environment by volunteering to "adopt" a street.

To adopt a street, individuals or organizations agree to remove litter from a minimum of one mile of selected roadways for a period of one year. The group must conduct its clean-ups about once a month in the good weather months. In return, the City will furnish the volunteers with materials and supplies to help them with the clean-up. The City will also post a sign indicating the name of the adopting group at both ends of the adopted section of street.

If you are interested in adopting a street or obtaining additional information on the Adopt-a-Street Program, please call the Street Maintenance Division at 987-7949.
