In 2015, the community came together to discuss the future reuse of the O’Kane house and auxiliary structures. Feedback confirms there is wide community support for officially designating the property as an historic site, which would make it eligible for some funding to support eventual rehabilitation provided an appropriate reuse is identified. Neighborhood feedback confirmed support for utilizing the site for non-profit office space and/or event use such as weddings and other celebrations and community gatherings. The City will pursue local historic designation for the site. Following a successful designation process, the City will then proceed to prioritize rehabilitation of the house among other projects for application to the State Historical Fund. As we currently have other projects in the pipeline that are under contract and will require additional phases, we expect to be in a position to consider an application for the O’Kane property in the next five to ten years.
