Man Involved in Lakewood Police Shooting Identified

Joe Richard Shorty, a 39-year-old male of Denver, has been identified as the suspect involved in the officer-involved shooting last Wednesday night in Lakewood.

At approximately 7:20 p.m. on November 28, a Lakewood Police Agent contacted Shorty near Mountair Park in northeast Lakewood. During the contact, Shorty fired a gun in his possession. The agent, who was joined by other agents, followed the male who was now walking away. The agents gave continuous orders for Shorty to stop and drop the gun. The male didn’t comply with orders and fired the gun at least one more time.

The male stopped near 13th and Sheridan Blvd and fired his gun again. Police returned gunfire. The man was declared deceased on scene and no police agents were injured.

The investigation continues by the Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). There is no further information available as this is an ongoing investigation.
