Death Investigation Indicates Homicide

At about 9:40 Saturday morning Lakewood police agents responded to conduct a welfare check at a residence in the 1500 block of Depew St. Agents arrived on scene and located a deceased male inside.
As the investigation progressed, detectives felt strongly the elderly male victim died as the result of a homicide. Further investigation led detectives to believe two male individuals were involved in the victim’s death. The two were identified, located and arrested. They are 22-year-old James A. Dominguez-Castor (072791) and 20-year-old Stephvon G. Atencio (122893). Both are believed to be acquaintances of the victim.
Dominguez-Castor and Atencio were arrested on charges of first degree murder. They were transported to the Jefferson County Jail and will make their first court appearances either today or tomorrow.
Lakewood detectives will rely on the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office to perform an autopsy early this week, to assist them in their investigation. The identity of the victim has not been released pending the notification of relatives.
