LCC Presents The Producers

Tickets start at $20 at, 303-987-7845 or at the Box Office

Lakewood Cultural Center and Performance Now Theatre Company present the hit musical "The Producers," March 23 - April 8 at Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison Parkway. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Additionally, there will be a performance at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 5 and no performance on Sunday, April 1. The musical follows a scheming producer and his mousy accountant as they aim to produce the biggest flop on Broadway in Mel Brooks’ laugh-out-loud spectacle. Winning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards after its Broadway debut in 2001, “The Producers" skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself to be an “equal opportunity offender!”

Our story opens in New York City, 1959. Max Bialystock was once the king of Broadway, but now all his shows close on opening night. Things turn around when he's visited by the neurotic accountant Leo Bloom, who proposes a scheme tailor-made for producers who can only make flops: raise far more money than you need, then make sure the show is despised. No one will be interested in it, so you can pocket the surplus. To this end, they produce a musical called “Springtime for Hitler” written by escaped Nazi Franz Liebken. Then they get the insanely flamboyant Roger De Bris to direct. Finally, they hire as a lead actress the loopy Swedish bombshell Ulla (whose last name has over 15 syllables). As opening night draws near, what can go wrong? Well, there's no accounting for taste...

This performance features Scott Rathbun as Max Bialystock, Jeffrey Parker as Leo Bloom, Nicole Campbell as Ulla, Kris Graves as Roger de Bris, Adam Luhrs as Carmen Ghia, and Seth Maisel as Franz Liebken.

Tickets start at $20 and are available at 303-987-7845, or the Lakewood Cultural Center Box Office, 470 S. Allison Parkway (Wadsworth and West Alameda Avenue).

These performances are made possible in part through support from Colorado Creative Industries and the National Endowment for the Arts.
