Lakewood Heritage Center to participate in Blue Star Museums

Offering free admission to military personnel and their families this summer!

The Lakewood Heritage Center will serve our nation’s service members this summer as a 2014 Blue Star Museum, offering free museum admission to active duty military personnel and their families.

The Lakewood Heritage Center entertains and educates the whole family with a guided tour through the 20th century that features nearly a dozen buildings, which once served as local businesses, schools and residences.  Guests can also visit the museum’s two galleries or browse the 20th Century Emporium museum store for fun, retro, one-of-a-kind knick-knacks from yesteryear that will leave you feeling nostalgic.

The Blue Star program is a collaborative effort involving the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to museums from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  This year’s Blue Star Museums represent history, fine art, science, nature centers and children’s museums. The complete list of participating museums is available at www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.

This extraordinary program is a way for the museum community to thank members of the military and their families for their service and sacrifice.  “As citizens of this great nation, we are grateful to the men and women of the military for the service and sacrifice they give each and every day,” said Heritage Center Administrator Jeff Murray.  “This is one small way that museums around the country can give back and help improve the quality of life for these important members of our community. The Lakewood Heritage Center is honored to be a Blue Star Museum, and we look forward to seeing these brave community members this summer.”

The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-I ID card and up to five family members.  This includes active duty Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard personnel as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and NOAA Commissioned Corps.

The Lakewood Heritage Center is located at 801 S. Yarrow St. on the east side of Belmar Park.  For more information, please contact the museum offices at 303-987-7850 or visit www.Lakewood.org/HeritageCenter.
