Celebrate the Dedication of Lakewood's New Surfside Spray Park

The City of Lakewood’s Department of Community Resources invites the community to the dedication of Surfside Spray Park from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 14 at 5330 W. Ninth Ave. (Ninth and Sheridan Boulevard).

The dedication will include food and prizes (while it lasts). Mayor Bob Murphy and members of City Council and the community will officially dedicate the park at 11:15 a.m.

Surfside Pool was originally built in 1960 and was run as a private swimming pool open to the public. In 1972, Lakewood leased the pool to run it as a public pool and then purchased the pool in 1977. Surfside was closed in 2004 due to budget constraints and major renovation needs. After meeting and talking with the neighborhood and community, Lakewood approved a master plan for the redevelopment of the pool in 2007.

The Surfside Spray Park redevelopment was funded and supported by Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), Jefferson County Open Space, Colorado Lottery, Whole Foods – Belmar, and funds from a Community Development Block Grant.
