Help make decisions for your city

Everyone loves to talk about making government better. Now here’s the chance to do it. Help make decisions about building issues and historic preservation by applying for openings on Lakewood’s boards and commissions. The deadline to apply is Nov. 17, and applications are available online at, which also provides a full description of the qualifications for each position. For more information, contact Donna Moreno at 303-987-7661 or

Board of Appeals
One opening currently exists on Lakewood’s Board of Appeals, which is a quasi-judicial body that hears and decides appeals of rulings or decisions made by Lakewood’s codes administrator. Meetings occur as needed, but the board typically meets four or five times a year. Applicants must be qualified by experience and training in building construction.

Historic Preservation Commission
One opening currently exists for a three-year term. Applicants are not required to be Lakewood residents, but they should be a professional in a preservation-related discipline such as architecture, history, urban planning or related fields. The commission conducts public hearings on applications for landmark designation and makes recommendations to the City Council. It also conducts reviews of alteration certificates and applications for the relocation of designated structures. Meetings occur when the commission has an item for consideration, with a minimum of four meetings per year.
