Celebrate Earth Day all week long

Lakewood will celebrate Earth Day, commemorated on April 22 each year, with a series of events from April 20 to April 27.

2013 Earth Day Celebration
10-3 p.m., Saturday, April 20
Lakewood Heritage Center, 801 S. Yarrow St.

Activities: One-day fair with a transportation theme for the opening of the West light rail line. Electronic and hybrid car demonstrations, fuel-cell vehicle displayed, bicycle inspections and tuneups, and for the kids monster tricycle races and a climbing wall. Celebration of Water

Community Gives Day
10-2 p.m., Wednesday, April 24
Whole Foods in Belmar, 444 S. Wadsworth Blvd.
Staff from Lakewood’s Urban Parks Division will hand out wildflower seeds and tree saplings as well as answer plant and gardening questions. Whole Foods will donate 5 percent of the day’s store sales for park improvements and a new garden in O’Kane Park. View complete details.
