Registered Community Organizations

Registered organizations help improve communications between residents within their boundaries and the city. For example, registered organizations receive notifications about proposed re-zonings and requests for special use permits within or near the organizations' boundaries. The City of Lakewood encourages the formation of neighborhood organizations to take an active role in their community.

Registered Community Organizations can take the form of larger neighborhoods, smaller homeowners associations and business organizations:

  • Neighborhood Organization: an organization formed by neighborhood residents to organize activities, represent and promote neighborhood concerns and interests, and take an active role in setting directions for the neighborhood.

  • Homeowner Association (HOA): an organization in a residential subdivision, planned community, or condominium building that establishes and enforces rules for the properties and residents. These rules can include maintaining common green areas, internal streets, and sidewalks and enforcing covenants to preserve the appearance of the development.

  • Business Organization: an organization formed by businesses within a self-defined geographic area that represents and promotes mutual business concerns and interests.
