In partnership with the Jefferson County Public School System Drop Prevention Office, a drop-out prevention specialist conducts monthly meetings with court- or probation-referred youth at the Lakewood Probation Office. The purpose of this collaborative effort is to provide those youth on probation, who are struggling in the academic environment, with a “roadmap” to graduation as well as information and referrals to alternative education services, interventions and resources available within Jefferson County Public Schools.
In collaboration with the Jefferson Center for Mental Health (JCMH), a mental health specialist conducts referred adult mental health screening in a private office located in the Lakewood Municipal Court. This process was created to assist adult defendants before the court or on probation to increase access to appropriate mental health interventions and related services. The goal of the program is to improve a defendant’s mental health and reduce future criminal behavior and incarceration.
