Information
Technology teams continually strive to build a better systems within
budget constraints. Some of the notable savings within the department
are seen through the following projects:
- A
new software application was developed in house that helps
manage Victim Assistance cases, freeing up staff and volunteer
time to spend on outreach and fraud cases for seniors.

- GIS
ezMaps re-sold to City of Golden for cost recovery on application
development
|
- A
new construction use tax audit application was programmed
that helps monitor audits an potentially results in more
revenue collected.

- The
City is participating with other Jefferson County agencies
to implement COPLINK for multi-jurisdictional police records
sharing
|

- Software development environment was replaced and programming
staff were trained and are currently working on a Microsoft
.NET platform
|
- Obsolete hardware and operating systems were replaced
- Housing system/server replaced obsolete Microsoft
NT version
- Fiber optic network switches and converters replaced
as failures occurred (eBay purchases)
- Court recording system replaced with digital video
to improve court clerk efficiency and record quality
- Old golf course management system moved to Linux
from IBM Unix

- Self-service applications were developed that allow citizens
to track planning case status and to track inspection status
online from the City web site, www.lakewood.org.

- Added network storage system to increase efficiency of
file recovery and to start storage consolidation.
|
- IT
has added the capability to access city computer systems
from any PC on the Internet worldwide, in a secure manner
across SSL VPN (Secure Socket Layer Virtual Private Network),
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
