FIRE & ICE
Wednesday, May 1, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Clements Community Center, 1580 Yarrow St.
Meet the West Metro Fire Rescue safety squad and learn how to stay safe at home and be prepared for an emergency. Join us for a fire and fall prevention get together from 11 a.m. to noon followed by a fun ice cream social from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. This program is free, no registration needed.



FREE DAY
Tuesday, May 7

  • Clements Community Center “Free Day” includes drop-in fitness and dance classes (Essentrics, QiGong, SilverSneakers Classic and Western Line Dancing) and billiards at Sidepockets.
  • Lakewood Rides “Free Day” offers assisted door-through-door transportation for Lakewood residents who are age 60 or older and those of any age with disabilities. Rides are individually scheduled and are on a first-come, first-served basis. They may include medical appointments, social visits, banking, paid or volunteer employment and trips for various personal needs. All trips must be within Lakewood Rides destination boundaries. PREPARING TO HIKE
Friday, May 10, 10-11:30 a.m.
Clements Community Center, 1580 Yarrow St.
Lakewood is an awesome basecamp for day hikers. Join veteran hiker and author Pete KJ for an overview. Using abundant photographs, Pete will present geography, flora and fauna and discuss the simple clothing, equipment and safety considerations needed to enjoy our incredible backyard to its fullest. He will also speak on hiking strategies such as pacing, timing and seasons. This program is free, but preregistration
is required. Register online or by calling 303-987-4820 and reference activity number 680506-01 (space is limited).

 


CITY COUNCIL PROCLAMATION
Monday, May 13, 7 p.m.

An official proclamation will be read recognizing May 2019 as Older Americans Month.



OLDER ADULT WELLNESS FAIR
Friday, May 17, 9 a.m.-noon
Charles Whitlock Recreation Center, 1555 Dover St.
Join us for Lakewood’s annual Older Adult Wellness Fair where attendees can chat with vendors and support service companies, as well as enjoy fitness demonstrations and classes, and balance and strength tests. 9Health will also be on-site to provide health assessments, blood screenings and blood pressure checks (fee may apply). Other activities include free snacks, massages and foot care, prizes, giveaways and more! This event is great for adults age 55 and older looking for ways to get involved and be active, or for family members and caregivers of those who may benefit from this information.
