Visit with Ward 5 City Council members Karen Harrison and Dana Gutwein in an informal setting, share ideas and concerns and learn more about your community. At our January meeting we will talk about how Lakewood City Council is considering an evidence-based tobacco retail license ordinance to address youth vaping, which was declared a public health crisis by Jefferson County Public Health last fall. E-cigarette use among youth increased by more than 200 percent from 2013-2017, and tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in Colorado and the United States. Currently, Lakewood requires a license to sell alcohol, but does not require a license for tobacco products. Ten Colorado communities, including Golden and Edgewater, already have tobacco retailer licensing laws. Licensing and enforcement is proven to reduce illegal sales to underage users. Join the Ward 5 council members to learn more, ask questions and give input. Coffee and local donuts provided!
