The Lakewood Judicial Review Commission investigates all complaints against Lakewood municipal judges and recommends to the City Council, after a hearing held before the Commission, the removal of any judge for cause. The Lakewood Judicial Review Commission also serves as the ad hoc Judicial Nominating Committee, recruiting, screening, interviewing, and recommending judicial candidates for City Council selection and appointment.

Sections 5.3 and 5.9 of the Lakewood City Charter allowed for the creation of the Lakewood Judicial Review Commission. Ordinance O-84-93 established the commission in 1984.

The Commission consists of five members. Three members are registered electors of the City of Lakewood, who are not attorneys-at-law. One member is an attorney, who is designated by the President of the First Judicial Bar Association and one member is a judge, who shall either be the Chief Judge of the First Judicial District or another member of the Judiciary of the First Judicial District, designated by the Chief Judge. Terms for the registered electors are four years in length and Commissioners may serve two terms. The Lakewood Judicial Review Commission terms expire on March31st.
